Srinagar, February 06 (KNO) : Amid continuous rain and snowfall land and air connectivity to valley was cut off on Wednesday while as weatherman’s forecast of turbulent weather conditions would continue on Thursday as well.

Weatherman had predicted that bad weather conditions will touch its peak on February 6 and 7 with widespread rain or snowfall in and across valley. The only road connectivity of the valley with the rest of the world was cut off after continuous rains lashed the Srinagar Jammu highway leading to landslides, shooting stones along the stretch.

"Due to slippery road conditions the traffic was suspended, landslides also occurred at some places along the route," an official of the traffic department told KNO. He said traffic from Srinagar to Jammu had to ply on Wednesday. "The decision to open the road will be taken tomorrow after assessing the road conditions while Mughal road and Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road will remain closed till further orders," the official said, adding that there is a huge accumulation of snow at Jawahar Tunnel.

Air traffic too was disrupted and more than a dozen flights were cancelled at Srinagar International airport."There was poor visibility at the runway and flights to and fro Srinagar were cancelled due to bad weather conditions," an official at the airport told KNO. He said that only till 12 noon they had cancelled almost 12 flights, as commuters had to face tough time due to cancellations and delays. “The air traffic for Thursday will depend on the weather conditions,” he said, adding that commuters should contact airport authorities for any information about the flight schedule.(KNO)
